We know there’s tons of publications that feature in detail articles of what to do this fabulous long weekend (its times like these we don’t actually mind having a monarchy in this country right?) although we have not yet seen many featuring any extensive lists of where to shop this weekend. Seeing as we are THE shopaholics of London, we though we’d take matters in our own hands and do our own list of what happening in terms of shopping, discounts and freebies in some of our favourite places around town.
First up we recommend you head over to Covent Garden and Seven Dials. There you can expect to find a number of retailers that will be hosting their own festivities to mark the Queen’s sixty year reign. Enjoy a ‘Great British Tea Party’ at Neal’s Yard Remedies’ original store in Neal’s Yard, today Friday 1st June, with complimentary hand massages, organic tea tasting, nibbles and gift bags for the first thirty-five customers. Part from this our top picks are:
- Pop in to Topman General Store on Earlham Street for a free glass of Pimm’s.
- Head to TSHIRT store on nearby Shorts Gardens who will be offering its “God Save The Queen” t-shirt for an exclusive price of £20.
And don’t forget to pop in to say hello to our mates at Bolongaro Trevor, David David and Super Superficial; they all have secret jubilee treats going on in their shops that you wouldn’t wanna miss out on!
Having spent your Friday in Covent Garden we suggest you spend your Saturday in Soho. There you can head to the Newburgh Quarter in Carnaby for a shopping and eating extravaganza (12 until 4pm).
You can start by getting your groove on to live music courtesy of rockabilly band Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods, who will perform on the bandstand from 12 noon whilst enjoying free strawberries & cream and delicious summer cocktails. Then, at the end of the event, head to world famous cake specialists Choccywoccydoodah who have designed a spectacular Diamond Jubilee cake, that will be cut for everyone to enjoy a free slice at 3pm.
Nearly all surrounding shops and restaurants at The Newburgh Quarter and Carnaby will be celebrating the Jubilee with giveaways, special offers and tastings, our top picks are;
- Marshall Street Leisure Centre - free outdoor spinning tasters and Spa London treatments.
- Antidote - taster dishes outside their restaurant and wine bar.
- Meet the tailor at Fourth & Main and get complimentary alterations.
- Peekaboo Vintage - 20% discount and goodie bags with any purchases
- Lash Perfect Lash - get eyelashes with a royal twist
And, dont forget to visit our pals at nearby shops, including Revival Retro, Carry Me Home, Katya Shehurina, eCatwalk, Lamuète, F-Troupe and Bolongaro Trevor.
Once you’ve done Soho we suggest you head east and give a visit to the funky part of town; Shoreditch, with a stop over at Lambs Conduit street and Britain’s favourite menswear retailer Private White V.C.They are celebrating the Jubilee by recuding EVERYTHING in store by 20% throughout Saturday as well as treating every shopper to nibbles and a few cheeky drinks.
Once in Shoreditch our first pick of events is The Book Club Street Party which is a FREE event, open to all that will consist of live music, DJs, entertainment, live art, food and drink, performances, games and a screen showing the Jubilee procession. The event takes place on Sunday 3rd June and will feature a wide array of great local bands including Guilty Pleasures DJs, Hackney Colliery Band, Underbling and Vow and more. With a capacity of 5,000 guests we’re expecting this to be EPIC and extremely busy from the second they open so make sure you get there on time.
If you prefer a bit more relaxed environment we suggest you head over to nearby Boxpark which will be serving up a great selection of local live performances of Dj’s, musicians and artists, and more importantly; shopping discounts. Our top pics are:
- 20% off all things British at Irregular choice
- 20% off Farrah Vintage
- 20% off Original Penguin
- £10 off lingerie at Playful Promises
Remember to go say hi to our friends at: Oh Baby London, FashAddict, House of Vintage, Collectif, Dolly Dare, Paper Dress Vintage, 3939 Store and Relax Garden.
Other places we recommend you’d visit that are bound to have things going on are;
- Cannought Village
- Notting Hill and Portobello Road
- Camden Passage and Islington
